What does it mean to rest?

Our schedule is getting busier every month. When we want to plan a meeting with friends, we are surprised that our next free evening will be more than a month away. Then come our children’s activities, church events, work projects, birthdays and summer vacations. We have planned and planned our whole lives, almost leaving no room for things that could invigorate or give us rest. We all too often think that rest is like laziness. That rest means staying at home totally relaxed and doing absolutely nothing. Although there is such an interpretation of our rest time, this is not the case.

Rest means recovery.

It means recognizing when we are dry, exhausted and when we need to take a deep breath for a moment. It means recognizing our limitations and how we deal with the demands of our daily lives. For our bodies to recover, we need plenty of rest, which includes a good night’s sleep. If we notice that we are usually tired, it would be wise to evaluate not only how much we sleep each night, but also the hours between which we sleep.

Rest means invigoration.

It means finding out what makes us energetic and what doesn’t. It means choosing to integrate activities or moments of peace that offer moments of invigoration for our souls. If we continue to do things that dry us out, when we should find things that fill us, we will never have a boost. We need to gather more drops in this cup during our rest time than the dripping drops.

Rest means renewal.

It means experiencing a profound renewal in all areas of our lives. It means spending time with God so that we can have a spiritual renewal. Although we may like to do certain things that invigorate us from the point of view of the psyche, in the end it is necessary for our souls to be refreshed by the time we spend daily with God.

Over the next four days, we will focus on ways in which we can find rest for our bodies, minds, and souls. We will learn how to integrate into our lives routines that will become daily habits. And through this we will find the way to eliminate any mental, emotional, spiritual and physical drainage from our lives.

When you think about rest, does it seem impossible to you?

Which sector of your life do you feel would need the most rest? Your body, mind or soul?
